Deeper Mindfulness: Exploring Feeling Tone is an eight-week course developed by Mark Williams and colleagues from Oxford and Cambridge. It is designed for those who have already completed the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) or Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) programs, and are interested in exploring mindfulness more deeply.
The program emerged from psychological findings in the research that indicates that our understanding of the world is dominated by imagining actions we want to carry out, which is informed by sensations, thoughts and emotions. This can prepare us well for action, but it can also put us at risk of becoming exhausted without realizing it.
Ancient traditions saw “feeling tone” or “vedana” as a fundamental element of every moment of experience and a central aspect of mindfulness practice. Mindfulness of feeling tone can reveal insights into the deepest pattern of conditioning that we get caught in.
